Join us at Bob and Nettie Nelson's home in Clinton from 10:00–4:00± on Saturday, July 18th, for a day of buggin'! Those who've been to the Annual Meeting will know the site - but we're at 779 Battle Ridge Road. E-mail Bob Nelson (BeetleBob2003@gmail.com) if you need directions.
Can't predict right now what will be in bloom at that time, but there should be a variety of flowers around the grounds that will help attract a whole host of pollinators.
We have a small open meadow in the back (where we've tried to introduce wildflowers beyond the native goldenrod☺), as well as brush thickets dominated by winterberry, dogwood, and willows, with minor viburnum and meadowsweet, as well as the accursed bush honeysuckles and multiflora roses. (We're slowly removing these latter.)
The woods include over 20 species of native trees, from white spruce to bur oak and American basswood, while around the house are a few exotics like ancient apple trees, Ponderosa pines, and both Norway and Colorado blue spruces.
Bring a lunch and your collecting/observational gear (e.g., cameras), and enjoy a relaxing day in a familiar habitat in a different vestiture from how it appears in the early fall at the annual meeting! We DO sometimes have dog and deer ticks galore, so be prepared with your usual anti-tick precautions.
